FAQ

How would you describe Entwined
To coin a phrase, this new album is Metal, but not in the way that so many second rate bands on labels all over Europe are doing it, but with balls, power and integrity. Yeah, it’s gothic and atmospheric, but we’re still strong believers that the songs as wholes are the most important things. With ‘Dancing Under Glass’ we’re building the foundations for our future. We know ‘Dancing…’ is not the best album we’re ever going to do. In fact, I don’t think we’ll peak until at least album 3 or 4. The band has to grow. We’re only 21, you know. We’ve definitely produced some songs with immense dynamics, that flow and build and peak. Also, the thing most bands out there forget is the metal part of it, and that’s the difference - we are essentially a guitar based band. ENTWINED’s material is metal - it’s heavy but atmospheric, gothic but aggressive; it’s on the edge metal, but it’s still highly melodic - a combination of all the best factors of metal over the last 20 years or so.

What are your influences?
It’s hard to talk of influences, as there are five members in the band, and very little we all listen to. I guess there are obvious elements of Metallica and Iron Maiden, but apart from that it’s a combination of everything from pop to death, and I guess the end result is a sort of at the heavy end of ‘metal’, but with symphonic and atmospheric keys, combining with melodic yet groovy guitar work.

What are the lyrics about?
The idea is to create a workable whole that flows and fits in - it’s like stitching in all the colours to a tapestry - the right colours have to be in the right places. Entwined songs are individual, and each have their own feel and energy. On the post-‘Dancing…’ material, the lyrics are a lot less about individual love, more to do with general feelings. Love and hate, not just love like before, but also addressing some of the points about me that maybe I ignore. The new lyrics are definitely of a different style. A lot more realistic. I think maybe on ‘Dancing…’ I got a bit too into the whole fantasy of love thing, and now I’m more into the different types of relationships and feelings humans have. It makes it more interesting from my point of view, and allows me to start surprising myself again.
